First-Time Buyers Demand Move-In Ready Starter Homes

RISMEDIA, February 14, 2011—The term “starter home” seemingly refers to an entry-level property—one that is affordable yet needs tender love and care. But amidst the many homes available in today’s market, current first-time buyers want places with a little less room for improvement. In a survey of 300 consumers who purchased their first home in the last year, 87% said finding a move-in ready home is important to them.

This survey from Coldwell Banker Real Estate explored what was most important to new buyers to provide insight for those looking to buy or sell in 2011.

According to the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), first-time home buyers accounted for half of the market in 2010.

70 Percent of Americans View Homeownership as Part of Personal American Dream, According to Trulia

RISMEDIA, February 12, 2011—Trulia.com, a top site for home buyers, sellers and renters, released the results of its biannual American Dream survey, which has tracked American attitudes towards homeownership since 2009. Harris Interactive conducted this online survey on Trulia’s behalf in January 2011 among 2,079 U.S. adults aged 18 and over.

Key findings of the survey include:

- American Dream Still Lives: Although foreclosures and underwater homes continue to plague the current housing market, 70% of Americans still view homeownership as being part of their American Dream. In fact, more than three out of four homeowners (78%) say their homes are the best investment they ever made. Conversely, only 20% feel trapped in their “underwater” homes while 14% said they would walk away from their homes in a heartbeat if they could.

Rental Resurgence: Owners of Vacation Rentals Optimistic About Their Rental Business in 2011, According to New HomeAway Report

RISMEDIA, January 12, 2011—As leisure travel continues to rebound, owners of vacation rentals are expressing optimism about their bookings in 2011. In fact, HomeAway, Inc.—one of the world’s leading online vacation rental marketplaces—finds in its latest “HomeAway Vacation Rental Marketplace Report” that eight of 10 vacation rental owners anticipate their rental business this year will be stronger or about the same as it was in 2010.

The year is already off to a good start for some owners. According to HomeAway’s seventh quarterly report, about 60% of vacation rental owners say their bookings for the first quarter of the year (January through March) are about the same or higher than the same time period last year.
